Anne,
Thanks to Roberta and you, Sandy and I were able to view the memorial service through Weebly. You know we would have been there in person if we were in town! Grateful we were able to see the photos, hear the speeches and readings, hear stories from you and your siblings, listen to the beautiful music, everything...
Your Mom touched many lives in very significant ways throughout her life. I am blessed to have known her and will forever remember her. I see a lot of her in you. I know you and your siblings will be blessed by the many wonderful memories you have of her.
Blessings and love, Bettie Teel

Greetings. I am grateful that you have created this site to honor Ann. I have spent a lovely time scrolling through it. I recognized all of you kids immediately. I realized that I spent time in the first half and second half of Ann's life with 2 visits during the Pilgrim Place time.
I was 22 when we met (today I am 70). She was really my first friend as an adult...up until then my friends had been school mates or persons with whom I had worked as a singer/ dancer. Several of my favorite memories and activities of which I am most proud occurred in my 20's with Ann: the Women's Task Force when we placed our Feminist Thesis on the front door of the Pasadena UCC Church; teaching arts camp at Pilgrim Pines (her clay and me dance); working to make the UCC curriculum more inclusive, and teaching women how to lead worship so they would see the ministry as an option. I was thrilled when Ann went to seminary.
She also taught me about enjoying and respecting differences in styles. I was quick to respond and full of visual energy. She was quieter and more thoughtful. She taught me that her quiet wow was the same as my huge YIPPEE! Though expressed differently they were felt the same. She taught me to comfortably wait for answers and responses from others. Today they teach that as a concept called "wait time." My life is richer and my skill as an instructor is much stronger because she taught it to me in real life.
I have two pieces of her art and I love the photo you chose for the invitation. It is exactly as I remember her. Please send my best to Al and know that you have blessed lives because these two people (good and bad) were your parents. Art Linkletter said "things turn out best for the people who make the best out of the way things turn out." You all seem to be doing that. Continue to Enjoy!! Rey O'Day

She was special. Gutsy. Funny.
Thinking of you all tomorrow-wishing Ann my sweet and thankful goodbye for a great friendship.
Peace be with you (Anne) and your siblings as you celebrate her life and mourn her loss in this life.

So sorry about mom, doesn't seem that long ago she was raking, hoeing and making a fantastic garden. Amazing lady. Ella Oullett (Anne Cohen's neighbor)

February 11, 2018 by Maren C. Tirabassi It’s such a small detail in the shiny story – getting to talk to folks who have been gone a long time. I would like Harriet Tubman, please, that Moses to walk and talk with me. I want Langston Hughes, dreams deferred in a still small voice. Heck, I want Mark Twain, Shakespeare and Emily Dickinson, Susan B. Anthony, Cesar Chavez, and Rosa Parks. I promise not to keep you – I gave up booth-building a long, long time ago. Also Mama … Mama? |

I certainly have plenty of memories of the olden days and would love to wallow about in them. I, too, picture myself sitting on the beach with Ann monitoring the kids. I’m so so sorry she’s gone. What a unique, bright, creative lady she was. She had a talent for mothering too—a model for me. I’m so glad you’re celebrating a woman who deserves a national holiday. I’ll think of you on April 28.
Gratefully, Elaine Greensmith Jordan

Dear Anne: I write to offer my sincere condolences in the passing of your mother. When I was in college, I was part of the Conference’s Peace Task Force, and have fond memories of sitting in a circle with the rest of the group in your parent’s living room in Pasadena (+/- 1970). Your mother was a very positive influence on me and the others in our rag-tag Peace Task Force.
I also noticed that you are Pastor at Mount Hollywood Congregational Church, UCC. Back when I was in Junior and Senior High School, Rev. Mel Harter (Pioneer UCC) introduced me to Allan Hunter, and I had the great blessing of spending many hours over many years with Allan. You are following in the footsteps of one of the great ministers of the 20th Century.
Blessings and Peace to you in these days. Tom Buchenau

Hi, Anne - I just read the e-mail from Felix re: your Mom's passing, and I am so very sorry. Your mother was a "fan" of mine, or I perceived her as such as I was coming into the Conference as an ordained person. And while I was at La Canada, she wrote to me and told me she hoped I'd stay in the Central Association!
I know these last years haven't been easy for you as you worried about your Mom, but she was one giant in the faith, in my humble opinion, and I feel blessed that I knew her.
Blessings, hugs, and sympathy. Rev. Skip Lindeman

I inherited her garden plots over at the Berkeley garden, and had quite a funny and endearing ongoing relationship for several years over those plots. I always found her to be sweet and kind, and she was known for her dedication to that garden. I had it for four or five years, and every time I worked in the garden, I felt as though I was taking care of her project and connecting with her spirit that loved that little space so much.

Dear Anne, I was able to talk with your mother @ our Christmas morning service in Robin's Nest. I enjoyed, as always, her sense of humor. Also her clarity about what she would/would not eat for breakfast!
May her deepening journey bring relief and release for all of you. Ann and your family are in my prayers as well as in the wider prayers of Pilgrim Place.
Blessings, Mary Atwood

Today Ann begins a new journey, blessed with remembering, clarity, and light.
She was a dedicated and joyful woman and pastor. May Ann rest in peace and rise in glory.
And may all of you be comforted--Thinking especially of your son Peter
